The Lansing School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bellarmine University established the BecVar Artist-in-Residence program in order to exemplify the art and science of Nursing and Health Sciences through the eyes of an artist.

The BecVar Artist-in-Residence program allowed me the opportunity to experience the health sciences at Bellarmine and to translate that into a series of paintings. After attending a Hematology class in the Medical Laboratory Science department, I found it remarkable that the people who gather information to determine patient diagnoses and care monitoring often go unseen. My series is based on the careful, visual observation needed for decision making in medicine. Ultimately, the goal I have for my series is to highlight the field and department of Medical Laboratory Science.
